64355 - Experimental Study on Boiling Heat Transfer Characteristics in an Inclined Tube Bundle

Among all the steam generators, U-tube Steam Generator (UTSG) is the most widely used in marine nuclear power plant (MNPP), however, it comes with the problem of non-uniform heating (NUH) on the secondary side. The ocean conditions are very complicated, and MNPP may be in a inclined static state under ocean conditions. Both NUH and inclination can lead to the heat transfer characteristics more complicated on the UTSG secondary side. At present, the inclined tube bundle refers to the working medium flushes the tube bundle along the direction which has the certain angle with the tube bundle. But for UTSGs under inclined conditions, the flow direction of the working medium is the same as the inclination direction of the tube bundle. There are few experimental studies on the heat transfer characteristics in inclined tube bundle when the flow direction of the working medium is consistent with the inclined direction of the tube bundle. In this research, a thermal-hydraulic test rig was set up, and the test section was designed by simulating the local UTSG secondary side. The effect of inclination on the heat transfer characteristics in UTSG secondary side was analyzed. The result shows that since the direction of flow is not in the same line with the direction of gravity, the inclination will change the angle between the hot-cold fluid interface and the tube bundle, causing a radial unevenness on the fluid temperature and a uneven distributions of wall temperature along the channel. In addition, under NUH conditions, the effect of the inclined direction on the heat transfer characteristics of the secondary side is also important. Since the NUH can also cause the change of hot-cold fluid interface, the final result is shown by the coupling effect of the NUH , the inclined direction and the inclined angle.
